Tood was born on July 3, 1929 in Channing TX to Chet and Melba Moore. At the age of 14 he hitch hiked to Channing and worked for Matador Ranch. When he was 16, he quit school and went to work full time for Matador Ranch with his favorite horse, Gracie. He later went to work for the Sneed Ranch and was in Dumas during Doggie Days where he saw Pat Berry riding a horse and leading a second horse back to their pasture. He said that was when knew he was going to marry her. They dated until they married on October 1, 1955. After he had returned from the Korean War, they lived west of Texline on a small ranch. They moved to Hay Creek Ranch in 1965 and later purchased part of the Ranch where they built their home in 1969. They worked many ranches, cattle feedlots in the Texas Panhandle and New Mexico.
When not working they pursued their favorite sport, roping in many rodeos. Pat preceded him in death in September 2014. Tood was the last living cowboy that worked the Matador Ranch. He helped many young people with roping and ranching. This was his love and passion.
In addition to his wife, Pat he was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Howard and Clyde.
