Anna Ruth Beck 96, a long time resident of Dumas, passed away Friday December 24, 2010 in Dumas. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Terry, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Stratford, officiating. Interment will follow in Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Ruth was born October 12, 1914 in Canadian TX to Douglas G. Sims and Effie Rathjen Sims. She married William Grant Beck on January 25, 1934 in Pampa TX, he preceded her in death. From 1947 until 1974, Ruth catered meals for the Dumas Noon Lions Club. It was said that she was their best membership chair person as the membership grew from thirty to on hundred fifty before she retired.
Ruth was an avid fisherman and she cheered the Dallas Cowboys when they played to her satisfaction. During retirement she liked to travel and play bridge. She thoroughly enjoyed the bridge games and the good friends she made. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary K., a brother Jack, her beloved granddaughter Tammie Beck Witt, and most recently, a very special son, Douglas Grant Beck.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Joanne Spradlin and husband Alvin Boots, her daughter in law, Betty Beck her devoted and loving granddaughter Cindy Sullivan and husband Kerry great grandson, Cory Witt and wife Ashley, Jeremy Sullivan and wife Pam, Justin Sullivan and wife Amber, and Tyson Witt great grandchildren, Ashton Witt, Tori Witt, and Morgan Sullivan.
The family suggests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, PO Box 395, Dumas TX 79029 or to a favorite charity. The family will be at 1801 Geary Road.
