Ardelle L. Smith, 89 formerly of Dumas, passed away Friday, October 29, 2010 in Plano, Texas. Services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Bill Bailey, Church of Christ in Borger officiating. Burial will follow in Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Ardelle was born on May 2, 1921 in Happy, Texas to Lewis and Amelia Spiser. She attended high school and college in Canyon, Texas. In November, 1939 she married Dudley Smith in Happy. He preceded her in death in 1975. She had been a resident of Dumas since 1970, after a lifetime in Hartley Moore Counties. Ardelle was a homemaker and she enjoyed cooking every day for her family and the hired hands who worked on their family farm in the Middlewell community. She was a great cook and everyone loved her chili, which she always prepared for the Channing area fundraisers. The area salesmen would conveniently show up at her home at noon to sample her cooking. Her door was always open Ardelle was president of the Channing PTA and the Pilots Club. She helped establish Smith White Dirt Contracting, serving as their office manager from 1970 to 1983. Ardelle was preceded in death by her husband Dudley and two daughters Frances Weaver and Carolyn Johnson. Survivors include: one daughter, Janet White of the home in Plano grandchildren, Karissa White of the home in Plano, Otis Dean White and wife Kimberly of Denton Greatgrandchildren, Grace and Owen White of Denton granddaughter, Vicki McInnis of Happy Camp, CA and one sister, Mabel Veith and husband Ken of Amarillo. Other survivors include Kevin Johnson of Dallas, Kim Sabatini of Frisco, TX, and Teresa Baze of Willets, CA eight greatgrandchildren, and one great greatgrandchild. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 15186, Austin, TX 78761 or to the Scleroderma Foundation, Attn: Donations, 300 Rosewood Dr., Suite 105, Danvers, MA 01923. The family will be at 129 Melinda Lane in Dumas, the home of Troy and Linda Potter.
