Arlis Andrew McBee 81 passed away Sunday, July 22, 2007 in Dumas, Texas. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 25. 2007 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Benjamin Seller, pastor of the church officiating, assisted by Rev. Mark Wallace, pastor of Life Tabernacle. Burial will follow in Northlawn Memorial Gardens with Flag Detail by American Legion Post 224 of Dumas.
Arlis was born February 10, 1926 in Memphis, Texas to Charlie and Mattie McBee. He attended school in Memphis and West Texas University. He served in the US Navy as a Yeomen 2nd Class, from 1943 to 1946, on the USS Black. He was wounded on a reconnaissance flight over the island of Moritia. On June 15, 1974, he married Jan Henderson Vanover on the Windham Ranch in Callahan County, Texas. Arlis was manager of Contel Telephone Co. and served as mayor of Dumas 1995-1998. He served as United Way Co-Drive Chairman 1996-1997 and a volunteer for Memorial Hospice. He was also a member of the American Legion, North Plains Mens Investment Club, YMCA Board and the Dumas Noon Lions. Arlis is best remembered as a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Dumas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Lewis, Jessie and Delbert and sister, Shirley Chaney.
Survivors include: wife, Jan of the home; three daughters, Arlisa Cunningham and husband, Ronnie of Dumas, Carla Kirchner and Marla Moen of Big Timber, Montana; one son, David McBee and wife, Marsha of Dallas; and nine Grandchildren and four Great-Grandchildren.
