Aurel E. Kinney 85 passed away Monday, November 5, 2007 in Amarillo, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, November 9, 2007 at Dumas Cemetery with Rev. Darrell Wait, pastor of First Christian Church officiating, assisted by Wayne Norrell of Sunray, a family friend. Flag detail by American Legion Post 224 of Dumas. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Aurel was born November 23, 1921 in Baca County, Colorado to Howard and Lillie Kinney. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII 1942- 1945. On March 22, 1947 he married his best friend and the love of his life, Betty Spellman in Canon City, Colorado. She preceded him in death on June 10, 2005. Until his retirement he worked 34 years as a measurement technician for Panhandle Eastern. He was a past president of the Dumas Evening Lions Club and a founding member of Dumas VFW Post 9022. He had been a resident of Dumas and Moore County since 1953 and was a member of First Christian Church. Nothing was more important to him than his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had wonderful friends and neighbors who have sustained him. He had a joy for life that was contagious, even to neighborhood children. He will be greatly missed and always in our hearts.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Survivors include; daughter, Kanda Thacker of Borger; two sons, Steve Kinney and wife, Ann of Frederick, Maryland, Mark Kinney and wife, Shirley of Amarillo; nine grandchildren, Keitha, Aron, Matthew, Kimberly, Kimmee, Tammy, Tyson, Jason, Skyler and five great-grandchildren.
