Bertie Hall, 86 of Dumas, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011. Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at the Church of the Nazarene in Dumas. Rev. Steve Swanson, pastor of the church will be officiating, assisted by Rev. Damon Akins and Rev. Kevin Anderson. Interment will follow in Hartley Cemetery in Hartley, Texas. There will be a family visitation at Morrison Funeral Directors in Dumas from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, October 14, 2011. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Bertie was born on July 13, 1925 in Greer County, Oklahoma to Homer and Rosa Reames. She grew up in Altus, Oklahoma and attended school there. She was Valedictorian of her 8th grade and senior class. She went on to attend West Texas University in Canyon, where she received her BS in Education. Bertie started teaching in 1943 with only nineteen hours of college. She taught at the Mennonite School in Fairview, Oklahoma for two years. She later moved to Dalhart to teach at Kella Hill. She met her husband, Ralph Howard Hall, and they were united in marriage on October 23, 1948 in Dalhart. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1997. Bertie took time away from teaching to raise her children, and then went back to teaching at Hartley in 1965 until her retirement in 1987.
Bertie was a beloved and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed studying the Bible, and reading in her spare time. One of her greatest joys was teaching. She loved her family deeply. She was the mother in her brothers and sisters life, as she raised them after the death of their mother. Bertie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Bertie was preceded in death by her brothers, Claude and Chester Reames, and her sister, Vada Dollins.
Bertie is survived by one daughter, Eva Ward of Dumas two sons, Loyd Hall wife Lori and Lee Hall wife Terry, both of Dumas eleven grandchildren, Josh Ward wife Rachel of Houston, Andrew Ward wife Amber of Oklahoma City, Isaac Ward and wife Alyssa of Yukon, OK, Jessica Hall fianc Scott Stohner of Waco, Bradlee Hall of Austin, and Renee Hall, BrieAnne Hall, Jamie Hall, Brittny Hall, Timmy Hall and Delena Hall, all of Dumas and four great grandchildren, Landry Ward, Jubilee Ward, Brylee Ward and Baylee Ward.
