Bessie Osborn Littrell, 95, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 14, at Morrison Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Mark Wallis, pastor of Life Tabernacle officiating. Burial will be at Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Bessie was born July 4, 1915 in Tell, Childress County, Texas to William Carrol and Sarah Osborn. She received her degree from West Texas State Teachers College in 1939 and taught elementary school at Briscoe, Plemons and River Road of Amarillo. On July 7, 1942 she married J.F. Bid Littrell. He preceded her in death in 2002. Bid was employed with Colorado Interstate Gas Company and they lived in New Mexico and Colorado at CIG camps before moving to FourWay Camp and then to Dumas after his retirement.
Bessie was baptized at the age of 14 in the cotton gin tank at Tell which had been built to collect rain water. Every church in Tell used this tank for immersion. She continued her walk in faith throughout her life. A member of First Baptist Church in Dumas since 1967 she continued to attend church services until the last few years.
She had been a resident of Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center since July 1998, spending the remaining years and enjoying the many activities there in fellowship with friends and devoted caregivers.
She was also preceded in death by 6 sisters, Miriam Caperton, Ima Duncan, Oma Byrnes, Georgie Coury, Alma Dutton and Mary McBroom and brothers W.C. Dub Osborn and J.E. Osborn.
Survivors include nieces, Polly SoRelle and husband Charles of Amarillo, Starla Willis and husband John of Dallas, Jan Reed and husband Art of Guthrie, Tx, Susie Funk of Boise City, Okla, Brentie Harris and husband Wes of Ft. Worth nephews Bill Caperton of Espanola, NM and Jack and Velma Duncan of Crescent, Okla.
