Betty Jo Davenport

Betty Jo Davenport, 91, of Stratford TX died Thursday, April 17, 2025. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 11 o'clock in the morning at the Stratford Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Stratford Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 5 o'clock until 7 o'clock in the evening at the funeral home in Stratford. Arrangements are entrusted to Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Affectionately known as “Jo,” she was born in Gouldbusk, TX and moved to Stratford at age 10. She was preceded in death by her parents JD and Ruby Huggins, husband Richard (Dick) Davenport, daughter and son in law Jeannie and Thom Sikora, and brother Jimmie Huggins.

Jo was well known in the community for her time as the secretary of Mary Allen Elementary. She and Dick volunteered for years as part of the CASA group and she was active in her local church of Christ. She loved golfing in the spring and summer at the country club and painting wooden crafts built by Dick. She found peace while sitting on her backyard cabana surrounded by windchimes and garden gnomes. Traveling was a favorite pastime of Jo’s and she starred as cook and camp boss at Deer camp for 30 years. She loved watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren in all of their sports and was known by the friends of her grandkids as “Nanna.” She particularly loved bluebonnets and all things Texas.

Her memory lives on through her 3 remaining children: Carol Jetton of Schertz, TX, Mark and wife Joyce Marshall of Stratford, and Rick and wife Dayna Davenport of College Station, Texas, two sisters June Palmer and Linda Higginbotham, grandchildren Nancy Carroll, Kori Conaway, Nicole Holmgreen, Callie Davenport, Josh Marshall, Ryan Wanner, Jessica Sikora and Missy Macon as well as numerous great grandchildren and a great great grandchild on the way!
