Betty Jean Fry Morton, 83 of Dumas, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2016. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 in the morning on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the 9th and Bliss Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Northlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 o'clock until 8 o'clock in the evening on Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Betty was born September 26, 1932 in Randall County to Cleve and Mary (McCoy) Hutchinson. Betty was married to Erit 'Lefty' Fry on July 13, 1956, he preceded her in death on May 10, 1981. She later married Harold Dean Morton on January 14, 1983. She graduated from West Texas State Teachers College in Canyon and began her teaching career. She taught school in Tulia, Sunray, Stinnett, Armstrong School, and eventually moved to Dumas where she taught from 1963 until 1989 when she retired and started substituting.
Betty was involved in several organizations. She belonged to the Window on the Plains Museum, Retired Educators Association of Dumas, Pilot Club of Dumas where she served as president numerous times, and was also a member of the 9th and Bliss Church of Christ.
In addition to her first husband, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Lee, and Charles Hutchinson and three sisters, Juanita 'Tootsie' Buntin, Joan Hicks, and Lavern Bates.
She is survived by her husband Harold of the home, children: Gaylon Fry and wife Kim of Lefors, Heston Fry and wife Janet of Big Spring and Vonda Fry of Dumas; grandchildren: Andrew Fry and wife Hannah of Rosharon, Seth Fry and wife Sarah of Fritch, Blake Fry and Todd Fry both of Lefors.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Window on the Plains Museum, 1820 S Dumas Ave, Dumas TX, 79029; READ, 501 Willow, Dumas TX, 79029, or to the donor's charity of choice.
