Bill McKay, 84, passed away Monday, March 2, 2009 in Dumas, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 9:30 AM, Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Channing Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM at Middlewell United Methodist Church with his nephew Rev. Eddie Schauer of Gun Barrel City, Texas officiating assisted by Rev. Terry Hart, pastor of Hunt Memorial and Middlewell United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Bill McKay was born September 18, 1924 in Spur, Texas to Walter and Era McKay. On August 4, 1951 he married Leola Schauer at Channing, Texas. Bill and Leola moved to the Middlewell Community in 1957. Bill custom farmed and Leola taught school at the Middlewell School until it closed in 1963.
They began attending the Middlewell Methodist Church in 1957 where they have been members ever since. Bill was a very loving and devoted Christian husband, father and grandfather. His Christian faith was an example to his family and many friends. Bill moved his family back to Channing in 1967 where they resided until 2003 when Bill had to be admitted to a nursing home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Donald Ray, Berle B. McKay and Joe Del McKay, a grandson, Stephen Paul Dodson.
Survivors include: his wife, Leola of the home; daughters, Linda Sue Utter and husband, Russell of Amarillo, Sandra Lea Quillen, Judith Ann Dodson and husband, Scott all of Dumas; grandchildren, Kendall Ellis, Meagan Bartlett, Lacy Langley, Austin Gambrell, Sarah Dodson, Anna Dodson, nine Great-Grandchildren; brothers Jack McKay and wife, Mary Lou of Spur, TX, Merle McKay and wife, Mary Nell of Gainesville, TX; sister-in-law, Ayne McKay of Gainesville, TX.
There will be a family visitation Tuesday, March 3, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Morrison Funeral Directors.
The family suggests memorials be to the Alzheimers Association, Star Chapter, PO Box 32882, Amarillo, TX. 79120, Memorial Hospice, 224 E. 2nd, Dumas, TX 79029 or to Middlewell United Methodist Church, 5895 Rd. W, Dumas, TX 79029.
The family will be at 1720 Sunset in Dumas.
