Bill Earl Ramsey, 89 a long time resident of Dumas, was called home to be with His Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 21, 2017. A Graveside service is scheduled for 11 o'clock in the morning on Monday, June 26, 2017 at Dumas Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Howe, officiating. A Memorial service will follow at 2 o'clock in the afternoon at the First Baptist Church with Bro. Ed Rogers and Dan Turner, officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas.
Bill was born March 1, 1928 in Timpson, Texas to Blan and Daisy Ramsey. When he was a young child, his family moved to Tahoka, Texas. Bill graduated from Tahoka High School in 1945. He served in the Army for 2 years. He returned to the Lubbock area and attended Texas Tech University where he graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor's in Agronomy.
While at Texas Tech, he met and married Ruth Hensley in June of 1954. They had two children Mark and Sondra. Bill worked for Dekalb for 26 years including time in Mexico, Arabia, and France. Upon retiring from Dekalb, Bill owned his own crop consulting business in the Dumas area.
He was a member of the First Baptist church where he taught 8th grade for many years. He would help sponsor many youth trips, ice skating, snow skiing, etc. After sponsoring many youth trips, Bill decided to change his pace and began teaching senior adults. He also served as a deacon for 26 years. His joy was serving the Lord and his church.
He loved his family dearly. He and Ruth enjoyed fishing and camping, and would take the family when they could. Upon true retirement, Bill and Ruth bought a camper and drove to Alaska. Taking long trips and experiencing God's beauty was a pastime of theirs.
Bill tried to spend as much time as you could with his grandchildren. Lindsay, Macy and Alex. They were all very involved with sports, and Bill would go every chance he could get to watch them.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ramsey of Dumas; two children Mark Ramsey and wife Lisa of Amarillo and Sondra Arnold and husband Pat of Lubbock, Texas; three grandchildren Lindsay Ramsey of Dallas, Macy Ramsey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Alex Arnold of Lubbock.
