Billy Joe Cox

Billy Joe Cox, 92 of Stratford passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. A Graveside Service is scheduled for 10:30 in the morning on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Marella Cemetery in Griggs, OK. A Memorial Service will follow at 2 o’clock in the afternoon at First Methodist Church in Stratford with Pastor Bryan Wardroup, officiating. Billy will be available for viewing from 1 o'clock to 6 o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday at the funeral home in Stratford. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Billy was born on January 5, 1932, in Griggs, OK to Julius and Minnie (Pitts) Cox. He grew up in Griggs and went on to graduate from Panhandle State University. After graduation, he moved back to Griggs where he farmed. He married his wife Mary on August 18, 1968; she preceded him in death in 2016. Billy was an excellent craftsman and loved to work with wood. He and Mary also enjoyed square dancing. He was a longtime member of First Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School. Billy loved people and enjoyed visiting with all his friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Mike Cox; wife: Mary Jo Cox; daughter-in-law: Ginger Higgins. 

Billy is survived by his children: Jim Higgins of Shallowater, TX, Linda North and husband Jack of Shallowater, TX, Nakita Cox Brack and husband John of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren: Jason Cox and wife Jennifer, Dustin Cox and wife Dagan, Josh Brack and wife Amanda, Callie Bostrom and husband Matt, Johnathan Higgins, Colin Higgins; great-grandchildren: Jaelin Cox, Jordan Cox, Jocelyn Cox, Lucy Brack, Mark Bostrom.
