Bobby Gene James, 83 of Dumas, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 o'clock on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Sanders, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will follow in Northlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 o'clock until 7 o'clock in the evening on Monday at the funeral home. Services are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Bobby was born October 3, 1932 in Okmulgee County, OK to Frank and Bonnie (Ross) James. Bobby graduated from Bryant High School where he was a standout in basketball. In 1953 he was drafted into the United States Army where he served as a combat engineer during the Korean Conflict. Bobby helped rebuild the Freedom Bridge north of Chunchon, Korea. While in Korea he also continued playing basketball and was selected to the traveling team. Some of the players nicknamed him the White Goose because of his ball handling skills. After the service he was united in marriage to Beth Ann Hill on December 12, 1959. Bobby worked as a pipeline welder and an inspector.
Bobby enjoyed his grandkids and loved watching them play basketball, baseball, football, tennis, volleyball and run track. He also loved hunting and looking for wildlife. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the NRA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters: Doug, Helen, Charlie, Dorothie, Joann, Virginia, and Nancy.
He is survived by his wife Beth of the home; daughters: Lisa Foreman and husband Terry of Dumas, Kim Watson and husband Johnny of Amarillo, Kristi Uehling and husband Jeff of St. Charles MO, Kevelyn Dyer and husband Perry of Fritch; brothers: Don James, Johnny James and Jimmy James; sister Kaye Maxwell; grandchildren: Scott Bittner, Jon Whetstone, Erin Ronald, Jeremny Whetstone, Matt Bittner, Jade Mays, Whitney Kuker, Cesilee Kuker, Jordann Whetstone, Lacey Foreman, Josh Watson and Alex Watson; great grandchildren: Avery, Jocelyn, Javen, Jeremiah, Tyler, Jace, Addison, Molly, Taylor, Emmersyn, Beckett, Elliot, Eidynn and Knox; five step grandchildren, eight great step grandchildren and many more extended family members.
