Charles S. Elliott, 90, of Dumas, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017. Private family interment will be at Lubbock City Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Charles S. (Charlie) Elliott, the second of four children born to William Robert and Susan Elliott was raised on the family farm near Russellville, Kentucky, until moving to Pratt, Kansas, with his family as a young man. Siblings included an older brother, Floyd; younger brother, Richard; and younger sister, Linda. At the age of 18, he met Evelyn Lee Roberts, and on October 9, 1944, they were married in Pratt, KS. Soon after marriage, he was inducted to the United States Army and served overseas in the Occupation of Japan and Korea in 1945 and 1946. Their firstborn, Robert Lee, was born in 1945, during the time Charlie was overseas. Upon his return, the young family lived in Texas, and later moved back to Pratt, KS, where in 1950, Randy was born, and later in 1957, Terri was also born there. Charlie was plumbing at the time and in 1964, he and his brother, Richard, and their families moved to Dumas and established their plumbing business, E & E Plumbing. He was a lifetime member of Dumas Masonic Lodge #1009 and a long, long-time member of the coffee-shop club.
He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Evelyn Lee (Roberts) Elliott; second wife, Hattie Mae (Hornsby) Elliott; son, Robert Lee Elliott; granddaughter, Angelia Marie Elliott Eagen; brothers, William Floyd Elliott and Richard E. Elliott; and faithful lawnmower-riding sidekicks: Pepe and Cocoa.
Charlie is survived by his son, Randy Elliott of Dumas; daughter, Terri Smith and husband Terry of Dumas; grandsons: Tracy Elliott of Dumas, Cody Pitts of Oklahoma and Travis Smith and wife, Heather of Dumas; granddaughter: Candy King of Dumas; 8 great grandchildren: Nikki Caudle, JoDee Walthall, Kiya Eagen, Kailyn Eagen, Kori Eagen, Randy Elliott, Haygen Smith and Stratton Smith; 4 great great grandchildren; sister: Linda Gould of Joplin MO; several nieces and nephews; two step children and several step grandchildren.
