Charles Riggs, 84, of Dumas, passed away Tuesday March 20, 2018. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, March 23, at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Dumas with Rev. Zane Powers officiating. Interment will follow at Dumas Cemetery. Masonic graveside services will be conducted by Dumas Masonic Lodge #1009 with military honors provided by American Legion Post #224. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas.
Charles was born December 10, 1933 in Offerle, KS, to Vincent William and Annie Jewel (Stinson) Riggs. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Westmar college in Iowa. After college Charles served in the Navy, travelling the world and met the love of his life Dorothea Marie Beall in Stratford, TX. They married November 7, 1954, and the majority of their marriage was spent in Stratford, TX and Denver, CO. She preceded him in death in 2017. Together they enjoyed bowling, and joined a league. He worked as an electronic technician for Western Union and AT&T for many years. He retired from AT&T and moved to Dumas where he began working for JBS in Cactus. Charles loved to work, and work and work and was an excellent provider for his family. Charles was a devoted husband and loved to sing and joined the church choir. He was a member of Dumas Masonic Lodge #1009 and the local VFW chapter #9022.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Dorothea; daughter; Russella; and a sister, Gloria Ann Bowles.
Charles is survived by his sons: Charles Allen Riggs Jr, of Lakewood, Co, and Steve Riggs of Caon City, Co: a brother; Gordon and Kay Riggs of Littleton, CO. Charles is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and by his 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
