Chester Chet Holden, 96, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2010. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 21, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart. Flag detail will be by American Legion Post 224 of Dumas. Memorial services will be at 1:00 PM at First Christian Church of Dumas with Rev. Darrell Wait, pastor of the church officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Chet was born May 7, 1914 in Gray, Oklahoma to George and Sarah Holden. He attended Balko schools and served in the US Army during WWII, 1941 thru 1945. He was in the army engineers in Australia, New Zealand and New Guinea. After coming home from the war he went to work for Natural Gas Pipeline Co. and worked many years before his retirement. On June 17, 1956 he married Francis Brown in Dumas. She preceded him in death in December 2003. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 1009 of Dumas. Chet was a long time resident of Dumas and was a member of First Christian Church. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Jack, Ben, Louis and Cris and his sister Elizabeth Pepper. Survivors include sister, Anna Holden of Pampa sisterinlaw Juanita Holden of Surprise, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to First Christian Church, PO Box 971, Dumas, TX 79029.
