Cleathel Maxine Chilcoat, 87, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Morrison Memorial Chapel in Dumas. Bryan Gary, pastor of 9th and Bliss Church of Christ in Dumas will be officiating. Interment will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 in Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Cleathel was born on December 25, 1923 in Sulpher, Oklahoma to Ruben and Leora Embree Hunter. She graduated from Sulpher High School. Cleathel married James Henry Chilcoat on June 4, 1941 in Sulpher. James was in the Navy, and together they traveled around the United States, residing in several different cities. Cleathel was employed as a teachers aide while they lived in Page, Arizona. She had been a Dumas resident for the last five years. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Dumas.
Cleathel was a talented lady. She liked sewing, crocheting and knitting various projects. She also enjoyed cooking for her family. She was a beloved and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Ava Hunter and Oma Hunter, and one brother, Onald Hunter.
Cleathel is survived by her husband, James of the home two sons, Gary Chilcoat of Phoenix, Arizona and Ken Chilcoat of Dumas one brother, R.E. Hunter of Sulpher two grandchildren, and three greatgrandchildren.
