Daphne A Lackey

Daphne Ann Lackey, 91 of Sunray passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Sunray Baptist Church, with Pastor Ken Houston, pastor of the church officiating. Burial will follow at Lane Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Beeson Morrison Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 3 o’clock in the afternoon until 5 o’clock in the evening on Sunday at Morrison Memorial Chapel in Sunray.

Daphne was born on December 28, 1932, in Old Allison, OK to Ray Earl and Natalia (McKinnis) Byrd. She married Gerald Lackey on March 11, 1948 in Dumas, TX. She worked as a custodian for 26 years and later in the school cafeteria for another 5 years. She loved cardinals, working in her yard, sewing and playing cards at Senior Citizens. Daphne was a great cook and loved to cook for her family. Daphne had a servants heart and was always willing to help anyone in need. She was a member of Sunray Baptist Women, Sunray Senior Citizens, Sunray Baptist Church and Xi Omega Phi Sorority. 

In addition to her husband, Gerald, she was preceded in death by her parents: son: Glen Lackey; sister: Shirley Hokansen; brothers: Donald Byrd and Roy Dale Byrd; grandchildren: Preston, Joshua, Dale, Michael, Christopher, and Heaven.

Daphne is survived by her daughters: Pamela Scroggins and husband Roger of Dumas, TX, Brenda Wingo and husband Tom of Sunray, TX, Wynon Martinez of Lubbock, TX; son: Monte Lackey and wife Donna of Pampa, TX; 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 33 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild; sisters: Fern Page of Slaton, TX, Ramona Wren of Amarillo, TX, Patricia Smith and husband Galen of Alba, TX, Gloria Adams and husband Roger of Dumas, TX, Carolyn McGee and husband Ed of Lubbock, TX, Rhodora Alberty of Amarillo, TX; brothers: Larry Byrd and wife Mary Ann and Gary Byrd all of Dumas, TX.
