David Arnold Boyd

David Arnold Boyd, 81, passed away Friday, November 27, 2009 in Amarillo. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Zane Powers, Student Minister of the church officiating, assisted by Rev. Brad Foster, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church. Flag detail at the church will be by American Legion Post 224 of Dumas. Private burial will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. David Boyd was born January 9, 1928 in Mingus, Texas. He was raised by his grandparents Herman and Docia Boyd. He served in the US Army 11th Airborne Parachute Infantry in 1946 and 1947 in Sandia, Japan. On October 2, 2003 he married Alice Nivens in Dumas. He was a cook by trade and cooked at Amarillo Air Force Base before its closing. David was extremely proud of his 37 years of sobriety and being a member of Moss Lane AA. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a longtime resident of Amarillo before moving to Dumas in 2003. He was preceded in death by two sisters and eight brothers. Survivors include; his wife Alice of the home; sons, David Ray Boyd and wife, Sissie of Oklahoma City, Stephen Boyd and wife, Janice of Yukon, Okla, David Paul Baber and wife, Susan, Daniel Boyd and Darwin Boyd, all of Amarillo; daughters, Linda Dunn and husband, Royce of Wellston, Okla, Karen Scalise and husband, Oty of Dumas, Sherri Selter of Indianapolis, IN; brother, Bate Lee Ousley of Jacksonville; sisters-in-law, Betty Boyd and Rosalee Boyd of Amarillo; step-children, Donna Pergrem and husband, Ray of Amarillo, Starla Nicholson and husband, Dave of Miami and Tom Nivens and wife, Gayle of Amarillo; 26 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express their thanks to the Doctors and Staff of Ussery-Roan Texas Veterans and to Odyssey Hospice for their care and concern for David during his illness. The family suggests memorials be to Ussery-Roan Texas State Veterans Home, 1020 Tascosa Rd, Amarillo, TX. 79124.
