David T. Terrell, 82, of Dumas, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Pastor Matt Price officiating and Pastor Grady Burkhalter assisting. Interment will follow in Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sunray, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson-Morrison Funeral Directors.
David was born May 25, 1940 in Plainview, TX to W.R. and Ines (Lacewell) Terrell. Graduating from Dumas High School in 1959, David began college life at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Tx. He married Eva Lou Butler on April 1, 1960. They would playfully tell everyone it was March 32, to avoid the April Fools title. David was a farmer in Moore and Hartley Counties, eventually settling on the family’s farm where they raised their family.
David’s favorite activity was being involved in his children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s lives and in all of their activities. Riding on the farm machinery and trips to town with grandpa were highlights of these times. David was also an avid collector of lots of things, especially toy tractors. He was a faithful member of Dumas First Baptist Church and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his wife Eva Lou in 2009 and his brother Jimmy Don Terrell.
David is survived by his son: John Terrell and his wife Toni of Amarillo, Tx; daughters: Jaylyn Alexander of Amarillo, Tx , and Joann Terrell of Borger, Tx; brother: Doyle Terrell and wife Billie of Dumas, Tx; sister: Carolyn Flanagin Sweeney of Borger; grandsons: David Glen Terrell and wife Daven, Jason Alexander, and Nicholas Alexander, of Amarillo and Bradley Alexander of Dumas; granddaughter: Kayla Terrell of Borger, Tx; numerous great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family. He is also survived by many numerous friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested with gratitude, memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 420 South Bliss Ave., Dumas, Tx or to a favorite charity.
