Dick Reavis, 88, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2008 in Amarillo, Texas. Memorial services will be held at 6:00 PM, Friday, August 1, 2008 at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dale Cain, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Dick Reavis was born September 23, 1919 in Artesia, New Mexico to Everett and Mabel Reavis. He served six years in the US Army Air Corps and was a navigator on a B-29 Bomber. He was discharged in 1947 with the rank of Major. In June 1942 he married Kathleen Johnson in Willow, Oklahoma. He was a newspaper publisher retiring in 1983.
Dick was a member of the Panhandle Press Association Hall of Fame. In 1972 he was the Dumas Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. Over the years he served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, Moore County Development, and North Plains Country Club. He was a member of First Baptist Church and had been a resident of Dumas for 44 years.
Survivors include; his wife Kathleen of the home; sons, Dick J. Reavis and wife, Miriam of Raleigh NC, Joe Reavis and wife, Theresa of Fairfield, Gil Reavis and wife, Sally of Seattle, Wash; brother, Newt Reavis of Illinois; and grandsons, Brady Reavis of Fairfield and Hank Reavis of Seattle, Wash.
