Donna Ann Burgess Johnson

Donna Ann Burgess Johnson of Stratford, TX, passed away at 79 years after a courageous fight against COVID. Ann is preceded in death by her husband James "Jim" C. Johnson and her son James C. Johnson III. She is survived by her daughter Kara KJ Neuse, son in law Micah Neuse, grandsons, Bryce and Jayce Neuse, granddaughter Alyssa Romero Sorensen and great grandson Jamie Romero Sorenson. Additionally, she is survived by her brother Rex Burgess and, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ann was one of six children. Her parents, Bob and Minnie Burgess settled in Stratford, TX in 1941. Ann graduated from West Texas State University with a major in Education and a minor in Music. Her first teaching assignment was in Denver, Colorado where she met Jim, a young Air Force officer. They married in Stratford. The Air Force moved the family over 20 times, all over the world. After the Air Force, Jim's subsequent job took the family back overseas for the next 14 years. In 1996, Jim and Ann retired in Stratford. Ann is remembered as an incredible gardener. Wherever the family lived, she always created a beautifully oasis full of plants and blossoms. She was an artist and designed landscapes that Jim would build for her. Ann enjoyed opening her garden to the Stratford community for photo shoots-homecomings, proms, graduations and family reunions. It brought her joy. Ann served numerous terms on the Stratford City Council. She volunteered her time at Stratford's Imagination Station, fostering creativity for community children and she directed community events at the Senior Citizen's of Texas (SCOT) Hall. Ann had a beautiful singing voice, was an excellent pianist and could even play a drum set. There was always music in the Johnson home. Services will be held at 11 o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church in Stratford with Pastor Kevin Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Stratford Cemetery under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting Stratford's Emergency Medical Services.
