Dorothy Dixon Haile, 91 of Stratford, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 8, 2015. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 1 o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Stratford with Rev. Ron Whit, pastor of the church, officiating, and Rev. Steve Baskin, assisting. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors of Stratford.
Dorothy was born May 7, 1924 in Lipscomb County, TX the youngest born to Lester and Doris Parker Dixon. She was a lifelong educator. Dorothy taught in a one-room school in Lipscomb County in the spring of 1942. After graduating from West Texas State College in 1945, she taught science for one year in Pampa. In 1946, Dorothy accepted a job in Stratford as the Extension Agent for Sherman County where she worked with 4-H and Home Demonstration Clubs for five years.
In 1951, she married Arlyn Haile; he preceded her in death. They had two children Sue Etta Haile and Jack Haile. When Arlyn passed away in 1973, Dorothy began teaching homemaking at Stratford High School until her retirement in 1984. In 1988, she took over as Sherman County Librarian where she worked for eleven and half years.
Dorothy was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church, and served in various capacities from teacher to librarian. She was honored in Stratford as Citizen of the Year in 1998 as well as Old Timers Queen plus numerous other awards and recognition.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter: Sue Haile of Childress; her son: Jack Haile and wife Barbara of Stratford; two grandchildren: Evan Haile of The Colony, TX and Lucius Haile of Canyon, TX; sister and brother-in-law: Ellinor Fowler and husband Jack of Plano, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
