Doug Beck, 75, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 26, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. John H. Sanders, pastor of the church officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Doug was born on April 2, 1935 in Wheeler County, Texas to William Grant and Ruth Beck. The family moved to Dumas in 1942 and he graduated from Dumas High School in 1953. On February 11, 1954 he married Betty Kinder. He owned and operated a contract welding and backhoe service until his retirement in 1997. He has been an active volunteer since retiring. He had served on the Window of the Plains Museum board and was always available when something needed to be done.
Doug had many talents and interests and was always busy with a new project. He loved to refurbish older farm tractors. He built a covered chuck wagon and took part in parades. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father and his daughter Tamra Lynn Witt.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty daughter, Cindy Sullivan and husband Kerry of Dumas his mother, Ruth Beck of Dumas grandsons, Cory and Ashley Witt of Amarillo, Justin and Amber Sullivan, Jeremy and Pam Sullivan all of Dumas, and Tyson Witt of Phoenix, AZ greatgrandchildren, Ashton Witt, Tori Witt, Morgan Sullivan and Harmony sister, Joanne Spradlin and husband Al of Albuquerque, NM and sisterinlaw, Joyce Pool of Amarillo and many nieces, nephews and cousins that loved and respected him.
The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 395, Dumas, TX 79029 or to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. 2nd, Dumas, TX 79029.
The family will be at 10800 Cluck Rd. in Dumas.
