Edna Mae Childers Smith, 74 of Dumas, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2016. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Widener, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will follow in Dumas Cemetery. Edna will lie in state on Friday from 5 o'clock until 8 o'clock in the evening at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors. Edna was born on April 5, 1941 to Alonzo and Viola (Hall) Childers in Clayton NM. She attended Amistad, NM School. Edna grew up on her parent's ranch with her sister, Ida and brothers, Doyle and Ronald. Upon graduation from high school, she attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM. She also attended and graduated from Draughons Business College in Amarillo in the early 60's. She worked for Moore County Hospital for several years then with Swift for 25 years until her retirement. Edna was a member of Bible Baptist Church; she loved to serve the Lord and enjoyed being a greeter every Sunday morning. Edna touched many lives, and will be remembered for always smiling and making others feel welcomed. She also loved to cook and garden. Edna will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother: Ronald Lee Childers; father and mother-in-law: W.S. and Mary Babe Ellen Smith. Edna is survived by her husband John Smith of the home; her son: Bob Christian and wife Teresa of Channing; stepdaughter: Tracy Edwards and husband Steve of Burlington; brother: Doyle Dee Childers and wife Susan of Rio Rancho, NM; sister: Ida Lorene Harrell and husband Donnie of Melrose, NM; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
