Ernest Sutton Powell

Ernest Ernie Squeaky Sutton Powell, 96 of Dumas, passed away on Sunday April 1, 2012. Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Morrison Memorial Chapel in Dumas with Rev. Dorothy Ramos officiating. Interment will follow in Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors. Ernest was born on August 9, 1915 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to William and Ollie Sanders Powell. He worked as a farmer and a carpenter until his retirement. Ernest was united in marriage to Minnie Lee Watson in 1936. She preceded him in death in 1948. He later married Kerdelia Mabel Riley in 1952, and she preceded him in death in 1985. In 1987, he married Edna Williams, who preceded him in death in 2003. Ernest was a long time resident of Dumas. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church. When he was unable to drive any longer, he attended the Church of Christ with friends. Ernest was a very talented woodworker. He enjoyed building bird houses, windmills and chairs. He also loved the outdoors and working in his garden. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents, William and Ollie Powell four brothers, Frank Powell, Dude Powell, Joe Powell and Albert William Powell two sisters, Zola Powell and Opal Sorrell son, Albert William Corky Powell grandson, Paul Wayne McKown granddaughter, Elisabeth McKown stepson, Joe Riley and two step daughters, Jane and Delores Riley. Ernest is survived by one daughter, Earnestine Earnie Powell McKown and husband Bobby of Dumas, one son, Marvin Powell and wife Frances of Amarillo one stepdaughter, Barbara Bobby Brown of Dumas two stepsons, Melvin Williams of Virginia and Kenneth Williams of San Antonio twentyfour grandchildren twentyone greatgrandchildren eighteen great greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will be at 824 Miller in Dumas. They would like to extend their welcome to any friends that would like to come by their home.
