Eunice Stephenson

November 18, 1927 — December 2, 2020

On Wednesday, December 2, 2020, Eunice J. Stephenson, loving mother of three sons, passed away after 93 years of enjoying this life and giving those who knew and loved her so much joy and appreciation. Eunice was born on November 18, 1927, in Idalou, TX to Lois and Bertha Evitt. She grew up in Phillips, TX, and married the love of her life, Jack Stephenson at the beginning of WWII. During the war, Eunice and her parents moved to southern California where she worked at a military airplane manufacturing plant to support the war effort. After the war, she and Jack moved back to Phillips, Texas where they began their family and raised three sons, Richard, Ronnie, and Randy. Eunice had a passion for people and was most proud of her work as a secretary with the Sunray ISD and the Dumas ISD where she worked for over 40 years. She became the secretary to the Superintendent of the Dumas ISD for many years. The job was a perfect fit because she could serve others, get to know many wonderful people, and would seem to always remember their name and something about them. Many of her coworkers maintained a lasting friendship with Eunice even after her retirement in 2000. If someone found out that we were related to Eunice, it would be most common for them to eagerly reflect on her with honest appreciation, love, and respect. She was a unique lady with an independent spirit. Eunice was known for being pleasant, well dressed, and classy, but more importantly, she is remembered for being sincerely interested in others. In 2018, Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, after 76 years of a loving marriage. She is survived by 3 sons, Richard and wife Barbara of Olathe, Kansas, Ronnie and wife Debby of Saginaw, TX, and Randy and wife Donna of Pampa, Tx. The 8 surviving grandchildren are Jason, Joanna, Jeff, Melissa, Lori, Bryan, Shelley, and Aimee. Eunice has 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a younger brother Del. A viewing is from 5:00 until 7:00 on Friday, Dec. 4th at Beeson-Morrison Funeral Directors in Dumas, TX. A private family graveside service will be at 2:00 on Saturday, Dec. 5th at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
