Fidencio Pancho Garcia, 91, passed away Monday, January 10, 2011. Rosary will be said at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, January 14, 2011 at Morrison Memorial Chapel in Dumas. The Funeral Mass is scheduled for 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Sts. Peter Paul Catholic Church with Juan Carlos Barragan officiating. Burial will follow in Dumas Cemetery. Flag detail will be provided by American Legion Post 224 of Dumas. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Fidencio was born on November 16, 1919 in Laredo, Texas to Valentin and Amalia Garcia. He married Guadalupe R. Garcia on July 2, 1943 in Laredo. She preceded him in death in 2004. Fidencio had been a resident of Dumas for 69 years. He was employed by American Zinc for 25 years, and then Swift for 10 years. Fidencio was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
Fidencio was a veteran of World War II. He served his country as a private in the US Army, fighting in the Normandy Invasion with the infantry in 1944. His decorations and citations included a Purple Heart, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the VFW Post 9022, Dumas National Guard, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He was a member of Sts. Peter Paul Catholic Church.
Survivors include: daughter, Olivia G. Artalejo and husband Carlos of Odessa grandchildren: Carlos Artalejo Jr. of Westminster, CO, and Regina A. Valeriano and husband Gary of Midland greatgrandchildren: Alexander, Cristian, Jonathan, and Izabella Valeriano of Odessa, and Samantha B. Lopez of San Antonio daughter, Sylvia West of Chandler, TX granddaughters: Cheryl Adkins and husband Billy of Kansas City, MO, and Susan Hammond of Chandler greatgrandchildren: Courtney and Chelsea Adkins of Kansas City, MO, Jordan Mayberry, and Zachary and Rhett Hammond, all of Chandler daughter Delia Trevino and Ismael Martinez of Dumas granddaughters: Monica Trevino and Veronica Molina of Dumas greatgrandchildren: Julian Carrasco, Arianne Trevino and Anessa Molina, all of Dumas one sister, Maria G. Guerra of Laredo one niece and one nephew of Laredo and numerous cousins.
