Francisco Serna

Francisco Mendieta Serna, 82 of Dumas, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020. A Private family service is scheduled at Morrison Memorial Chapel with a private interment to follow at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors. Francisco was born on March 23, 1938 in Duvall County, TX to Francisco and Manuela (Mendieta) Serna. He was a member of the community since 1968. He was united in marriage to Tomasa Perez on October 23, 1959. Francisco made his living working in the oil fields until he retired. Francisco had many interests. One he enjoyed the most was spending time on the lake; he loved camping, boating, fishing as well as woodworking and had a deep love for the American Flag and the bald eagle. His love for the American Flag and eagle came from his father, Private Francisco Serna, who served and was honorably discharged from the United State Army in 1921. Francisco loved his family beyond compare; he was deeply devoted to them. He was an amazing example not only to his children but to everyone he knew. Francisco will be remembered for his generous heart. He always wanted to teach people everything he knew. Francisco was a man full of faith. He loved to sing especially church music and was a member of Assembly of God in Dalhart. Francisco will be greatly missed not only by his family but all who knew him. He was preceded in death by parents; son: Ricky Serna; brother: Sylvester Serna. Francisco is survived by his wife of 61 years, Tomasa; daughters: Sylvia Busch and husband Mark, Sarah Serna, Sally Lucero and husband Alex, Martha Casanova, and Marlo Serna; 14 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Juan Serna, Paula Lopez, Eva Guerrero, Tere Limas; and sister-in-law: Gloria Serna.
