Frankie Phillips, 95, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009 in Dumas, Texas. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Wallis, pastor of Life Tabernacle officiating, assisted by Dr. Mark Scott, pastor of the church. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Frankie was born November 13, 1913 in Kyle, Texas. She grew up on a farm in the Northeast corner of Childress County and graduated from Estelline High School in 1930. The depression started, cotton crops failed and the chance to continue a college education was not possible. She had taken piano lessons while in high school so she taught basic piano lessons for some spending money.
Frankie began dating Grady Phillips and on September 30th, 1933 they were married and had 63 years together. They moved to Dumas in 1946. She ran a Helpy-Selfy laundry and tried to help keep clothes clean. She went to nurses training and became an LVN nurse in 1968 and retired from nursing in 1983.
She was preceded in death by her son, Don Phillips, daughter, Edna K. Machen and husband, Grady.
Survivors include; daughter-in-law, Ellen Phillips Munkres and husband, Ernie of Dumas; son-in-law, Larry Machen of Seymour, TX; grandchildren, Scott Phillips and wife, Delonda of Dumas, Mark Machen and wife, Ann of Midland, TX, Pam Farrington and husband, Billy of Sachse, TX, Krissie Oden and husband Chad of Flower Mound, TX; and 5 great-grandchildren.
