Gary Wayne Newton, 50 of Dumas, passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2012. Services are scheduled for 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Morrison Memorial Chapel in Dumas. Rev. Steve Villines, former pastor of Bethel Assembly of God in Dumas will be officiating, assisted by Oty Scalise, a longtime family friend. Interment will follow in Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Gary was born on February 2, 1962 in Dumas to George and Alice McDaniel Newton. He graduated from Dumas High School, and had been a resident of the Dumas community for his whole life. He owned and operated Future Communications in Dumas. He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God.
Gary was very active and he loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping at the river and driving his sand buggy. He had a talent for mechanics and loved to tinker on various projects. He liked to work on TVs, VCRs, and other small electronic items. He also loved working on older model cars. Gary will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Newton, one sister, Linda Holt, and his niece, Tracy Woods.
Gary is survived by his father, George Newton and wife Janet of Dumas one daughter, Silver Hays and husband Jason of Dumas two granddaughters, Jocelyn Rose Hays and LillyAnne Hope Hays, both of Dumas and two brothers, George Newton Jr. and wife Shelly of Powder Springs, Georgia, and Jarrett Newton and wife Sally of Arlington.
The family will be at 104 Chelsea and 517 Floyd in Dumas.
