George L. Lewis, 59, passed away Monday, September 7, 2009 in Dumas. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Howe, pastor of the church officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery with flag detail by American Legion Post 224 of Dumas. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
George L. Lewis was born December 15, 1949 in Perryton, Texas to Ted and Mary Lucille Lewis. He graduated from Dumas High School in 1967. He was in the US Navy serving in VietNam from 1968 to 1971 aboard the USS Safeguard. On May 29, 2004 he married Paula Dunkin in Dumas. He started working for Diamond Shamrock in 1973 and was the measurement manager of NuStar Energy. George was an antique car enthusiast. He was a past member of Perryton ISD School Board and the Dumas Child Welfare Board. He had lived in Perryton for 18 years before moving back to Dumas in 1991. George was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son Joshua Blayne Lewis.
Survivors include; his wife, Paula of the home; daughters, Casey Torisk and husband, Toby of Saginaw, Valerie Barnett of McKinney, Jamie Kammer and husband, Karl of Frisco; sister Mary Larsen and husband, Steve of Amarillo; grandchildren, Kolton and Karlee Torisk, Kobee and Keely Barnett and Christopher and Jace Kammer.
The family suggests memorials be to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. 2nd. Dumas, TX 79029.
The family will be at 204 Bradley in Dumas.
