Greg Smith

Greg Smith, 54 of Sunray, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2015. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 3 o' clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, October 28 at the Sunray High School Gymnasium with David Purl, Associate Pastor at Grace Thru Faith, officiating and assisting will be David McGaughy, Pastor at First United Methodist in Sunray and Jonathan Zerby, Pastor at Sunray Church of Christ. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors. Greg was born on May 24, 1961 to Larry Smith and Phyllis Weir in Ponca City, OK. He graduated from the best college around, Texas Tech University, in 1983 and on July 7, 1984, he married the love of his life, Starla McGee. While in college, he was thrilled to be a part of the Crawfish Fraternity. Greg had been a resident of Sunray since January 1, 1989 when he was appointed City Manager and was deeply involved in his community. First and foremost, Greg was a family man who loved and cherished every moment he spent with his family and always thought of others before himself. For that reason, he chose to be an organ donor. He was a proud supporter of the Sunray Cross Country teams and was founder, owner and designer at XS Graphic. It goes without saying but Greg was an avid Texas Tech Red Raider fan. He also enjoyed working in the yard, woodworking and riding four wheelers. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and served on the advisory council and as treasurer. He was a member of Sunray Lions Club and Sunray Volunteer Fire & EMS Department. Greg served on the Happy State Bank, Moore County Hospital and Moore County Development Boards and helped out on the Community Park Improvement Committee and the Sunray CEIC Committee for Sunray Middle School. Greg is going to be greatly missed not only by his family but by everyone whose life he touched. Greg is survived by his wife: Starla of the home; one daughter: Hartlyn Smith of Sunray; one son: Brayson Smith of Sunray; parents: Phyllis Smith of Sunray and Larry Smith of Ardmore, OK; and two brothers: Jeff Smith of Sacramento, CA and Danny Smith of Arlington, TX.
