Gregory 'Johnny' Montez, 64 formerly of Dumas, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2018. A Rosary will be recited at 6 o'clock in the evening at the funeral home on Monday, April 2, 2018. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for 2 o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church as celebrant. Interment will follow at Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Johnny was born November 17, 1953 in Plainview, TX to Pablo and Juanita (Rangel) Montez. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served, with honor, at Fort Bliss. He then went to work for the VA in Lubbock where he would eventually retire. Johnny enjoyed karate in his younger years and was a man of few words. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lubbock. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; nephews: Paul Montez in 2005 and Jose Rodriguez in 1969; niece: Maria Rodriguez in 1967; grandmothers: Maria Montez in 1969 and Anita Rangel in 1976.
Johnny is survived by his brothers and sisters: Lucy Montez Wilson and husband Alan of Amarillo, Virginia Hernandez and husband Omar of Hereford, and Esmeralda Artalejo of Dumas, Lupe Montez and wife Sally, and Antonio Montez all of Lubbock, Mike Montez of Amarillo and Phillip Montez and wife Sylvia of Dumas.
