Hattie Mae Hornsby Elliott, 81 of Dumas, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2015. Graveside services for family and friends will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison funeral Directors. Hattie was born on August 27,1933 in Wellington, TX. She was the second of three children born to Loyd and Juanita (Carter) Hornsby. Hattie was raised in Wellington and the Rockwall/Royce, TX area, and moved to Dumas when she was 13 years old. Her siblings included: sister, Nell and brother, Calvin. She and her family were members of the Bible Baptist Church and she attended school here in Dumas. She married Don Kruger on March 31, 1951, in Clovis, NM. Hattie graduated from cosmetology school in Amarillo in the late 1950's. She then attended and completed nursing school in Dumas at the hospital and graduated in 1964. Her nursing career begin with Dr. Reed, then Dr. Pieratt, and eventually with Swift. Hattie was a longtime member of Pilot Club, a member of VFW Ladies Auxilliary, and the Eagles Lodge. On August 31, 1984, Hattie married long-time friend of the family, Charles Elliott. The Kruger family and the Elliott family were friends in the 60's and 70's when all the kids were friends as they grew up living two houses apart. She retired from Swift, where she was their nurse. After that, Hattie and Charlie shared many years traveling, camping, visiting friends, and enjoying family. She is preceded in death by her parents; son: Ricky Kruger; step-son: Robert Lee Elliott. Hattie is survived by her husband Charles of the home; sons: Rusty Kruger and wife Naomi of Hico, TX and Rocky Kruger and wife Lisa of Point, TX; grandchildren: Branda, Summer, Kyle, Darren, Sandi, Hailey; great-grandchildren: Brynn, Grey, Joleigh, Riley, Ryan, Reece, Oliver, Brayden; sister: Nell Woodard; brother: Calvin Hornsby; step-daughter: Terri Smith and husband Terry; step-son: Randy Elliott; step-grandchildren: Candy, Tracy, Cody, Travis; step-great-grandchildren: Nikki, JoDee, Randy, Haygen, Stratton; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggest memorials be to Memorial Hospice, 224 E 2nd, Dumas, TX 79029.
