Ignacio Nacho Montoya, Sr.

December 18, 1929 — June 22, 2020

Ignacio "Nacho" Montoya Sr., 90 of Dumas, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2020. Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock in the morning on Friday, June 26, 2020 at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Pastor Antonio Chavez officiating. Interment will follow in the Dumas Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Directors. Ignacio was born on December 18, 1929 in Fort Hancock, Texas. On January 14, 1951 he married the love of his life of 69 years Lydia Hernandez. Years after getting married they made their home in Sunland Park, New Mexico where he attended church at Mission Bautista and he coached the community little league baseball team. While living in Sunland Park he worked for Chavira Custom Homes for many years. In 1977 he moved his family to Dumas Texas and went to work for Swift Meat Packing Company. After 13 years of hard work for Swift Ignacio went on to start his own business known as Montoyas Construction, upon his retirement he passed his business onto his oldest son Ignacio Jr. Ignacio had a passion for baseball, having played the game for many years he went on to enjoy coaching and watching his sons, daughters and granddaughter play the sport. Ignacio loved his rose bushes and planted his vegetable garden every year. He had a special love for his grandchildren that brought him such joy. His grandchildren were often given special nicknames and most of them will remember his donkey whistle. He never met a stranger, he was often seen talking to random people around Dumas. Oh the love and companionship he had with his beloved dog Eureka was incredible. They could often be seen having a dance together or just sitting in the backyard enjoying the day. Ignacio is preceded in death by his parents; children: Maria Estella Cordero and Danny Montoya; son in laws: Gary Montasser and Bill Dickerson. Ignacio is survived by his wife, Lydia Montoya of the home; daughters: Emilia Holmes of Amarillo, TX, Alicia Dickerson of Little Elm, TX, Olivia Montoya of Phoenix, AZ, and Lydia Montoya of Dumas, TX; sons: Ignacio Montoya Jr., Ricardo Montoya Sr., Leo Montoya all of Dumas, TX and Joe Montoya of Alma, AR; sisters: Francisca Duran and Juana Sanchez both of El Paso, TX; beloved dog Eureka of the home and best friend, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Montana of Dumas, TX; 27 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
