He was born February 27, 1938 in Childress, Texas to Jack Robert Evans, Sr and Ivola Beatrice Irons Evans. He was raised by his Aunt Sammya Cecillia Evans from age 5. JR was a quiet man who could be difficult to get to know but no fiercer friend could be found once he got to know you. He was first to help anyone in need and wanted nothing in return. He would find strangers in need and anonymously provide gifts' that he knew was wanted or needed. His passion was learning, researching any topic which struck his fancy.
JR worked in the Water and Wastewater industry, JR had the longest streak as a member in good standing with the Panhandle District of the Texas Water Utilities Association. For many years JR was the only member who continuously had perfect attendance for the monthly meetings. He loved coming to the meetings and offered a quiet leadership to younger members who were just getting started in the industry. JR first became a member in December of 1982 and carried a Water and Wastewater license, giving him an unprecedented 36 years of wisdom and guidance to other members of the association.
Pall bearers will be John Root, Terre Boswell, Robert Hamrick, Damen Ratliff and Jerry Green. Funeral arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors and graveside services will be in Texline, Texas at 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2018, next to his grandparents.
