James "Jim" Dick passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 92, on March 13, 2025 at his home in Weatherford, TX. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at the Church of the Nazarene with Darrell Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in Northlawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.
Jim was born on April 5, 1932, in Ozark, Alabama to Bartow and Barbara Dick where he lived until enlisting in the Air Force in 1950. A veteran of the Korean War, Jim left the military to attend Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University). He graduated from BNC in 1964 and began the pursuit of his life-long passion of teaching. Jim spent most of his teaching career in Sunray, TX teaching Biology, Chemistry and Physical Science. Famous for livening up his classroom enviroment by sprinkling explosive ammonium tri-iodide in the hallways and table tops, challenging his students to race by foot or by car, Friday (homemade) pizza parties and by referring to his classroom agent-provocateurs as "Chief"; he assured there was never a dull moment in his classroom. He loved all things mechanical and when not teaching, he could be found tinkering in the garage, often under the hood of his vintage International Scout or helping a student tune up their hot-rod. A longtime member of the Church of the Nazarene in Dumas, Jim led singing, served as director of youth ministry, taught Sunday School and served on the church board. Above all, he loved to share his faith with those around him and encourage them in their walk with their Savior.
JIm was preceded in death by his parents: Bartow and Barbara Dick; wife Alice; son Deland; brothers: Rex, Lawrence and Milton; sisters: Katherine, Myra and Martha.
Jim is survived by his son: Dwight and wife Ruth; grandchildren: Derringer and wife Amy, Townsend and wife Kianna, Quay and wife Danielle, Kord and wife Stacie and Jessica and husband Daniel; 10 great grandchildren and sister Sarah and husband Ed.
