James Robert "Jim Bob" Herndon

James Robert “Jim Bob” Herndon, 69, of Dumas passed away Monday, September 12, 2022. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00pm on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Pastor Grady Burkhalter officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until service time at Morrison Memorial Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson-Morrison Funeral Directors.

Jim Bob was born on August 16, 1953 in Dumas, Texas to Gary and Zelma (Maxfield) Herndon. Jim Bob graduated from Dumas High School in 1971. He was a postal carrier for 22 years. Jim Bob loved karaoke, dancing, fishing, and camping. He was an avid western book reader and loved to play dominoes. However, he hated to lose at anything. Jim Bob never knew a stranger and was well liked by everybody.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Jim Bob is survived by his fiancé, Marilyn Haley, of Dumas, TX; daughter, Jennifer Swenson and husband Vince of Colorado Springs, CO and their children, Dillon, Landon, Kendra, and Micah; son, Michael Herndon and wife Laura of Amarillo, TX and their children, Jake and Grace; step-daughter Shannon and husband, Justin Talcott of Oklahoma City, OK and their children Cole and Brooklyn; step-son Bill Haley and wife Sandy of Dear Field, KS and their children Wyatt and Kevin; siblings: Ted Herndon and wife Sandra of Smithville, TX; Lynnette Fortenberry and husband Robert of Belton, TX; Leonard “Len” Herndon and wife Carma of New Braunfels, TX; Joyce Bowden and husband Richard of Belton, TX and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jim Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The family requests with gratitude, memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 915 Bell St. Amarillo, TX 79109 or donations may be given to help defray funeral expenses and can be left at the funeral home.
