James Junior Morris, 97 of Dumas, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Morrison Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Northlawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Beeson Morrison Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 5 o’clock until 7 o’clock in the evening on Monday at the funeral home.
Jim was born on October 20, 1925 in Elk City, KS to Ida and James Edward Morris. After high school, Jim entered the United States Navy on September 9, 1943 and was honorably discharged on January 12, 1946. After his time in the military, he returned to Elk City and married Twila Bright, his wife of 66 years, on April 19, 1946. He briefly served as a police officer in Independence, Kansas until he entered electronics school in Kansas City where he received his 1st Class FCC license. He was hired by Colorado Interstate Gas Company and moved to Dumas in 1956. He retired in 1988 and remained in Dumas until his passing.
He was an avid wood worker, gardener and jack of all trades. He was devoted to his church and his family. He was always there to help in any way.
Jim is survived by his daughters: Linda Stewart of Nebraska and Elizabeth Singer and husband Dennis of Amarillo, TX; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests, with gratitude, that memorials be made to Dumas Meals on Wheels, PO Box 1535, Dumas TX 79029.
