James Carl Noles

James Carl Jim Noles, 74, passed away Friday, September 17, 2010. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 22, at First Baptist Church, Dumas, with Rev. Bob Miller, pastor of South Georgia Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 PM in Channing Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Jim Noles was born September 8, 1936 in Tonkawa, Oklahoma to Thomas and Fannie Noles. He graduated from Tonkawa High School in 1954. He earned an associate degree from Northern Oklahoma College in 1956. He graduated in 1960 from Oklahoma Panhandle State University with a degree in business. On June 1, 1963 he married his best friend, Audrey Edwards in Channing. She preceded him in death on December 3, 2005. He received a masters degree in guidance and counseling from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1972. Jim began his teaching career in Channing in 1960 and in the summer months he worked for Western Sand Gravel. Throughout his 36 year career in education he taught accounting, speech, typing, social studies, and science. He also coached girls basketball for a couple of years. He officiated basketball games for many years. He was active in U.I.L. and coached drama, speaking, typing and debate. He was counselor for the Channing School and was a senior class sponsor for several classes. He was a member of the National Education Association, Texas Educational Association and Teachers Retirement System. Jim retired from teaching in 1995. Jim was a people greeter for WalMart from 1992 to 1999. He volunteered as a fire fighter for the Channing Fire Department. He was also a parent leader for Hartley County and Channing 4H Clubs. His greatest love was for all of the students that he taught throughout the years. Jim was a resident of Channing for 36 years and a resident of Dumas for 14 years. He was a member of Channing First Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by Carl Fry and Docia Fry brothers, T.W. Noles, Jack Noles and Bill Noles. Survivors include son, James Noles II and daughter, Christi Noles both of Dumas sister, Bertha Vanderhoofven of Frontenac, KS granddaughters, Cheyenne Noles of North Richland Hills, and Heather Steele of Dumas. The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to all of the staff of Memorial Hospice for their care and concern for Jim during his illness. The family suggests memorial be to The Refuge, 1009 S. Maddox, Dumas, TX 79029. The family will be at 1511 Bailey in Dumas.
