James Sonny Russell, 76 of Dumas, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2012. Services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Morrison Memorial Chapel in Dumas. Rev. Sam White, pastor of North Plains Christian Church will be officiating. Interment will follow in Northlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, September 7, 2012 at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Sonny was born on June 21, 1936 in Quinton, Oklahoma to Raymond and Edith Webb Russell. He was united in marriage to Kathy Ramos in Stinnett, Texas. Sonny was a long time Dumas resident. He worked for several years for Texas Concrete, and most recently as a security guard for JBS Swift. Sonny was a beloved and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed reading, and collecting trains. He was a member and supporter of the NRA. Sonny was loved by all who knew him and will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Sue Fleming and Helen Alexander one brother, Buddy Russell a grandson, James Fry and a great grandson, Romeo Martinez.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Kathy of Dumas three daughters, Tammie Fry and husband Randy of Dumas, Stephanie Brown and husband David of Amarillo, and Jamie Jones and husband Mike of Dalhart five grandchildren, Jake Fry and Cooper Friemel, both of Dumas, and Shane Petrey, Heather Martinez, and Crystal Friemel, all of Amarillo and seven great grandchildren.
The family will be at 1702 Lewis in Dumas.
