James "Jimmy" R. Vines

James R. “Jimmy” Vines, 84 of Dumas, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023.  Funeral services are scheduled for 11 o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Grace Thru Faith with Pastor Brian Hevrin, pastor of First Baptist Church in Vega, officiating.  Interment will follow in Northlawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.  Mr. Vines will be available for viewing on Tuesday from 8 o’clock in the morning until 8 o’clock in the evening at the funeral home.

Jimmy was born on August 18, 1938 in Erick, OK to Ray and Florence Vines.  He moved to Dumas at a young age where he grew up and graduated from Dumas High School in 1958 and then joined the national guard.  After high school, he attended Amarillo College and received his associates degree.  He was united in marriage to Karen Kemp on June 26, 1959 in Masterson, TX; she preceded him in death in 1997.  Jimmy worked as an Equipment Specialist Bureau of Mines Helium Activity for 33 years until his retirement.  Jimmy loved hunting, fishing and camping.  Most of all he loved spending time with his family. His favorite vacation spot was Vallecito Colorado in the mountains.  Jimmy was of Christian Faith.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, sister: Joy Case; daughter: Tammy Malone; and two granddaughters: Dustie Lyn Hart and Kami Vines.

Jimmy is survived by his sisters: Lola Cruz of Amarillo, TX and Ina Thurman and husband Gary of Amarillo, TX; sons: Jay Vines and wife Teresa of Amarillo, TX and Scott Vines and Leah Morris of Dumas, TX; grandchildren: James Robert Malone and Jeremy Joe Malone, both of Amarillo, TX, Crystal Rogers of Ballinger, TX, Chad Sutton of Kalvesta, KS and KayLyn Lane and husband Donny of Lubbock, TX; 17 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

The family suggests, with gratitude, that memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
