James 'J.L.' Woods, 94 of Dumas, passed away on September 30, 2015. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Bible Baptist Church in Sunray with Rev. Seth Seale, pastor of the church, officiating and Rev. Johnny Widener, pastor of Bible Baptist Church in Dumas, assisting. Family visitation with be from 6:00 to 8:00 in the evening on Tuesday at the funeral home in Dumas. Interment will follow at Brown Memorial Cemetery in Sunray. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas.
James was born on January 12, 1921, in Phoenix, AZ to Franklin and Ozzie (Edwards) Woods. He was a resident of Moore County for over 60 years. James was united in marriage to Ida Milbrey on December 24, 1939, in Arle, TX; she preceded him in death in 2009.
James enjoyed tinkering with things and especially loved to work on clocks and watches. He loved to read the Bible and never stopped learning. James was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Sunray and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife Ida he is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one sister; and one grandchild: David Bowden.
James is survived by two daughters: Sharon McCubbin and husband Robert of Amarillo and Anita Offutt and husband Norman of Dumas; two sons: Gene Woods and wife Bev of Orange, NJ and Chris Woods and wife Jennifer of Amarillo; fifteen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Bible Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 570, Sunray, TX 79086.
