Jane Elizabeth (Janie) French Simpson, 94 of Dumas passed away in Amarillo, Tx at Goodlife Assisted Living and Memory Care on Dec 1,2021. No services will be held at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.Janie was born on July 31, 1927 in Knoxville, Knox County, TN to Lester and Bertie (Goode) French. From childhood she was a member of City View Baptist Church, Knoxville, TN. Later attending Alice Bell Baptist Church, Knoxville. Her early education was Alice Bell Elementary followed by Belle Morris Middle School before graduating in 1945 at the original Central High School under Principal Grisham. She married her elementary school sweetheart, Robert G. Simpson, after his return from World War II on August 1,1945, in Knoxville, Tenn. They moved to Key West, Florida to await his discharge from the Marine Corp, October 29,1945. They would eventually build their home and raise their family in the Ritta Community. She moved to Spearman, Texas and later to Dumas, Tx in 2010.For most of her life she was a stay-at-home Mom where she had a large garden and canned and shared those vegetables with neighbors. Her father-in-law, Arthur Simpson, owned, operated The Front yard Dahlia Gardens, and he shared his variety of flowers with all the family. So, flowers were everywhere on the family property. Her mother, grandmother and various aunts would gather in the living room to quilt and visit or make clothes. Those gatherings would often end with the husbands showing up for "supper." Later she would add to her talents crocheting beautiful Afghans and making hot tamales. One of her favorite pastimes was talking "skip" on her CB radio making friends at 10 Downing Street, England and in Plano, Texas. After the death of her husband, she would go to work in telephone sales, as a cashier at a corner market and later at Sears which she retired from in 2000. In addition to work, she learned to dance spending weekends western dancing, square dancing, or ballroom dancing. During a rehab stay at Great Plains Nursing Home in Dumas she was caught teaching the "kids" to waltz for their high school prom. She made friends quickly and was often the "life of the party." She last danced on New Year's Eve with her "extra" son, Mike Campbell in 2019. Both are dancing in heaven together now.Preceded in death by husband, Robert Greer Simpson, Father and Mother: Lester Clyvoid and Bertie Goode French, Brother, and sister-in-law; Fred and Evelyn French.Survived by daughter, Carolyn and Wayne Cummings, Dumas, Tx; Son, Robert (Bobby) and Judy Simpson, Allen, Tx; grandchildren: Stephen Simpson, Allen, Tx; Corey and Lori Simpson, Krum, Tx; Kelli and Kevin Danford, Amarillo, Tx.
