Jeb Alston Cornelius II, 78, of Dumas, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2011. Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. on Friday, June 10, 2011 at Temple Baptist Church in Dumas. Rev. Jay McGaughy, pastor of the church will be officiating. Local arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. On Saturday, June 11, 2011, Jeb will available for viewing from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Home in Throckmorton, Texas. Interment will follow at 3:00 P.M. in Throckmorton Cemetery with Donnie Hibbitts officiating. Jeb was born on November 7, 1932 in Throckmorton, Texas to J. A. and Chlois Cornelius. He received a Certificate of Radio Technician, and was employed with Diamond Shamrock as an electrician until his retirement. He served his country in the US Army, and fought in the Korean War. Jeb married Nedra Jane Hibbitts on August 25, 1950 in Henrietta, Oklahoma. He has lived in the Dumas community since 1964, and was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Dumas. Jeb was active in the community. He loved coaching his boys during their years of playing little league baseball. Jeb and Nedra had a summer home on a ranch near Walsenburg, Colorado. They spent summers and family vacations there for thirtyseven years. Jebs favorite pastimes included fishing, hunting and playing horseshoes. He opened the first horseshoe court in Dumas. Jeb was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, William Cornelius. Jeb is survived by his wife, Nedra of the home three sons, Mark Anthony Cornelius and wife Elaine of LaVeta, Colorado, Kyle Madison Cornelius and wife Nora of Borger, and Tag Cornelius and wife Dee Etta of Dumas one brother, Jene Paul Cornelius of San Angelo, Texas two sisters, Joy Chandler of Graham, Texas and Kandy Wharton of Longview, Texas five grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Temple Baptist Church, 311 N. Maddox, Dumas, TX 79029. The family will be at 121 Cedar in Dumas.
