Jerry Wayne McLain 'Grasshopper', 73 of Dumas, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 o' clock in the afternoon on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Temple Baptist Church with Rev Jay McGaughy, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will follow at Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas.
Jerry was born on October 31, 1942 to C.C. and Fannie (Musick) Mclain in Monroe, LA. He spent most of his life in Dumas and graduated from Dumas High School in 1962. Jerry served his country in the Army from 1964-1970 and was stationed in Wertheim, Germany; upon leaving he was a CPL E4 and earned the distinction of sharpshooter. He also graduated from West Texas Barber College in Amarillo. On December 18, 1976, Jerry married the lovely Peggie Jameson in Clayton, NM. He loved his family very much but first and foremost, Jerry loved his God. He enjoyed the outdoors; especially when he was fishing, hunting or cooking. Jerry was owner/operator of Mac's Salvage from 1990 until his retirement. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and will be dearly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Chick McLain.
Jerry is survived by his wife Peggie of the home; one son: Tony McLain and wife Katherine of Richmond, TX; two daughters: Tina Swimmer and husband Shelton of Dumas and Amy McLain of McKinney; two sisters: Helen Rhoades and husband Garland of Dumas and Betty Fults and husband Benny of Amarillo; four grandchildren: Taylor Boren, Jeremy McLain, Kyler and Colton Swimmer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
