Jewel Smith, 85, a long time resident of Dumas passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in Amarillo. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, March 26 at Northlawn Memorial Gardens in Dumas with Jordan Mills, long time family friend and Rev. Alan Williamson officiating. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM at Park Place Towers Parlor, 1300 S. Harrison, Amarillo, with Rev. Alan Williamson, chaplain at Ware Living Center officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Smith was born November 25, 1924 in Lockney, Texas to William and Minnie Ivey. She was working as a bookkeeper in Hedley when she married Arie K. Smith, a farmer and rancher in the Middlewell Community. They moved to Dumas in 1954 and lived there until moving to The Ware Living Center in Amarillo in 2001.
Mrs. Smith devoted herself to her family and to her church. She joined the Womens Missionary Union in 1952 and served in many offices of this group. She taught hundreds of children and young people about missions and serving their fellow man in the Sunbeams, GAs and RAs organizations of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, her parents, brothers, Granville and Bill Ivey and sister, Jean Coates.
Survivors include sons, Kenneth J. Smith and wife, Mary of Conroe, Michael Smith of Amarillo daughter, Debrah Albracht and husband, David of Amarillo, four granddaughters, Nakia Oates and husband Jason of Denver, Kelly Doan and husband, Kris of Amarillo, Nikki Cantu and husband, Scott of Amarillo, Amanda Smith of Houston two grandsons, Cody Smith and wife, Sabrina and Chad Smith and wife, Angie all of Amarillo and eight greatgrandchildren and many loving friends.
The family would like to extend special thanks for the care provided by the nurses and staff of Ware Living Center. An extra special thank you for the loving care and compassion extended by the Namaste nurses and especially to Shari Stanford and Cindy Robinson and Hospice nurse, Wendy Fruscella.
Visitation with family and friends will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, March 25, at Morrison Funeral Directors.
