Jim Dowty, 77, formerly of Dumas, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2010, in Woodward, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 15, at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jerry Howe, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Viewing will be held from Noon, Friday, May 13 until service time at Morrison Funeral Directors.
Jim Finney Dowty was born June 22, 1932 in Nashville, Arkansas to James Louis and Martha Blanche Dowty. He grew up in Sunnyside and Dimmitt and graduated from Dimmitt High School in 1951. Jim graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Agronomy in 1958. He served in the US Navy from 1954 to 1956. On March 25, 1956 he married Ethel Mae Evans in Lynnhaven, Virginia. He worked at Sears, was a Vocational Ag teacher, a farm manager and worked for himself as a farmer. They had been living in Woodward for the past year.
Jim was a member of First Baptist Church in Dumas. He enjoyed farming, photography, hunting, fishing and talking with people. He enjoyed the beauty of nature and being with his family, who meant the world to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, James Lee Dowty and brother Pete Dowty.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel of the home daughter, Martha Feerer of the home brothers, Ed Dowty and wife Patsy of Vernon, Frank Dowty of Seattle, WA sisters, Delle Moore and husband, Richard of Dimmitt, Clara Harp and husband, Elbert of Wylie, Ann Heck of Nazareth, Nell Henley of Lubbock grandchildren, Leslie Feerer of Fargo and Kristen Parker of Woodward greatgrandchildren, Jayden Lee Pack and Rylie Joe Feerer and numerous relatives and friends.
