Jimmie Ann Urban, 89, of Dumas, Tx went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 26, 2023.
She was born to Jim and Inez Redwine. She was raised in Shallowater, Tx and in 1950 at the age sixteen, she married Sammy Allen Swinford at Shallowater Methodist Church in Shallowater, Texas. In 1978, they moved to Etter, Tx where she worked as the secretary at Moore County Grain (Etter) for several years. Sammy passed away in 1984, then she worked as the secretary of Debruce Grain for a few years. Jimmie then moved to Dumas and went to work for Wal-Mart for the next four years until she married James Urban at Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dumas, Tx in 1996. They made their home together in Dumas until James passed in 2002 and remained her home until her passing.
Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was not only a wife, mother, and stepmother but she was also "Nanny" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was most definitely the best there was. No one could give better back scratches, make better fried chicken (although Van refused to eat it after eating it some much as a kid), or be a better ice cream date than Nanny. She loved her church and didn't miss very many services. She loved her Lord and when stopping by to visit unexpectedly, many times you would find her sitting in her chair, reading her bible. Jimmie loved to sew, paint, and do crafts. She showcased her crafts in many craft shows over the years. She and a group of ladies made Christmas stockings for all the area nursing homes one year. She loved baking, making candy, and canning. She was an active member of the Jolly's senior citizens group at Temple Baptist Church. She went on as many trips with them as she could, always excited about where the next trip would be. It didn't matter if there were ten or three going on the trip, you could count on her baking six dozen cookies to snack on. Jimmie had a great love for life and was always doing something to make others laugh. With that, she earned the nickname "the Jolly's biggest troublemaker".
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sammy Allen Swinford, her late husband James Urban, her daughter Sheila Wright, her grandson Matt Wright and her sister Mary Ruth Walker.
Jimmie is survived by her son Van and Mandy Swinford of Sunray, Tx, grandson David and Annie Swinford also of Sunray, Tx, granddaughter Tiffany Swinford of Dumas, Tx, great-grandchildren Valen Swinford, Braygen Swinford, and Caidyn "Toots" Swinford. She is also survived by her step-son Larry and Melissa Urban of Dumas, Tx, brother in law Tom Walker of Shallowater, Tx and sister in law Sylvia Swinford of Lubbock, Tx, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, close friends Kaye Turner, Belinda Irvin, Jodena Payne, Joyce Rickerd, the Jolly's group and many precious friends who loved her and will deeply miss her.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 10 o’clock in the morning at Temple Baptist Church, 311 N. Maddox Avenue, Dumas, Tx with Chris Fobbs, pastor of the church officiating.
